Volunteers from UniSource Energy Services in Kingman recently presented $2,000 to River Cities United Way’s “Kids Bright & Healthy” Initiative (RCUW KBH).  Kids Bright & Healthy helps to provide medical, dental and vision services to children in families that are uninsured or underinsured. Over 1,075 students have been helped since this program began in 2003.

Several years ago, RCUW received a grant from Delta Dental to give low income and homeless children access to a dental cleaning, exam and x-rays.  Through this program, some children emerged with serious needs that needed to be addressed and RCUW KBH did not have enough funds to make that happen.  We applied for a grant with UniSource “Energy Community Impact Grants” and the grant now assists those children that have abscesses, rotten teeth and cavities.  The grant does not cover 100% of the additional costs but rather 50% and the local dentists that participate in the program accept payments from the family, so the child can be healthy and the family better understands the whole cost of keeping up on dental care.  UniSource has been a major contributor to RCUW by allowing a workplace campaign for their employees to donate and the Corporate offices match those donations to cover our Administrative expenses so 100% of what the employees donate, goes right back into their local communities.  Thank you Unisource!
